Common Vulnerability and Exposures (CVE) Program Adds Silicon Labs as CVE Numbering Authority (CNA)

-- The accreditation allows Silicon Labs to assign identifiers to common exposures to meet and surpass cybersecurity best practices --

AUSTIN, Texas, Nov. 17, 2021Silicon Labs (NASDAQ: SLAB), a leader in secure, intelligent wireless technology for a more connected world, today announced it has been added as a Common Vulnerability and Exposures (CVE) Numbering Authority (CNA) by the CVE Program, allowing Silicon Labs to proactively assign identifiers to common vulnerabilities and exposures in accordance with cybersecurity standards. Sponsored by the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA), an operational component of the US Department of Homeland Security (DHS), and run by the MITRE Corporation, the CVE program identifies, defines and publicly catalogs disclosed cybersecurity vulnerabilities to help speed up recovery and minimize loss in the event of a breach.

“This accreditation enables us to assign CVEs without having to contact an external authority, strengthening our commitment to responsibly managing exposures,” expressed Mike Dow, senior product manager, IoT Security. “The best way to address security issues is to identify vulnerabilities before they become a tangible threat, and as a CNA, we can now communicate with our customers more quickly and proactively.”

The number and diversity of smart devices are rapidly increasing, and each connected device is a potential target of cyberattack. Silicon Labs is working diligently to fortify security across its entire Internet of Things (IoT) portfolio in every way possible. The company recently announced a first-of-its-kind Custom Part Manufacturing Service (CPMS) for wireless SoCs and modules. CPMS complements Silicon Labs' industry-leading Secure Vault™ technologies as a secure provisioning service that allows IoT developers to customize their products with advanced security features to safeguard hardware, software and ecosystems before they even leave the factory. This way, customers can secure their products from manufacturing to delivery.

Silicon Labs also plans to join a CNA Working Group for even greater collaboration with other CNA authorities and security organizations on the improvement of security workflows.
