AUSTIN, Texas – Oct. 31, 2017 Silicon Labs (NASDAQ: SLAB) has announced that it will provide Dual Eagle Si47961/Si47962 radio tuner ICs for a software-defined radio (SDR) solution integrated into the third-generation products for Renesas Electronics Corporation (Renesas)’s “R-Car” SoC in-vehicle infotainment system.

The R-Car SDR solution is a joint project by Renesas, Silicon Labs and M's STYLE TECHNOLOGY that integrates global, market-compatible SDR technology into the R-Car system. The combination of Silicon Labs’ Dual Eagle Si47961/Si47962 analog AM/FM radio receivers and digital radio tuners combined with digital radio demodulation software developed by M's STYLE TECHNOLOGY for the R-Car system will meet analog and digital radio specifications to address all global market segments. Advanced firmware running on the tuner’s embedded DSP makes it easier to perform software version updates to enhance performance, expand functionality, and add new and improved features.

“The R-Car SoC by Renesas has continued to evolve as the most advanced vehicle-mounted computing platform since its launch in 2011,” said Yoshiyuki Matsumoto, Vice President and Head, Automotive Information Solution Business Division, Automotive Solution Business Unit, Renesas. “By incorporating the latest vehicle-mounted radio tuner IC by Silicon Labs and the software demodulator developed by M’s STYLE TECHNOLOGY into R-Car SoCs, it will be possible to realize a top-class infotainment environment targeting the global automobile market in which specifications differ.”

“Through the development and provisioning of our software demodulator in the SDR solution project for the R-Car SoC combined with Silicon Labs’ automotive radio tuners, we will contribute to the realization of a global market-compatible digital radio with software, the expansion of hardware options through the employment of software components, easy infrastructure follow-up and add-on functionalities using software updates,” said Masakazu Morita, President of M’s STYLE TECHNOLOGY.

“R-Car SoCs from Renesas provide a state-of-the-art platform for the next generation of automotive infotainment systems coming to market,” said Brian Mirkin, General Manager of Broadcast Products at Silicon Labs. “We are delighted to partner with Renesas by providing industry-leading automotive receivers and digital radio tuners for their SDR solution. Silicon Labs’ automotive radio expertise is the perfect base for a high-performance, scalable infotainment solution.”

About M’s STYLE TECHNOLOGY’s Software Demodulator

M’s STYLE TECHNOLOGY provides software demodulator technology for worldwide market-ready digital radio by software. The software demodulator can respond to future infrastructure impacts and data broadcasting with flexibility and quick response, independent of hardware.

About Silicon Labs’ Automotive Radio Tuner Portfolio

Silicon Labs introduced its first single-chip RF-in-CMOS audio ICs in 2005, redefining how AM/FM receivers were designed into consumer electronics products by reducing component count by more than 90 percent and board space by more than 60 percent. To date, Silicon Labs has shipped more than 1.5 billion radio-on-a-chip ICs including more than 50 million OEM automotive tuners, culminating with the company’s new Global Eagle (Si4795x), Dual Eagle (Si4796x and Si4797x) and Digital Falcon (Si469x) families, comprising the industry’s most advanced, scalable car radio system solution.
